The Afghan Council UK invited 30 delegations 7 of which were from Afghanistan visiting the UK. They were invited to the Bukhara restaurant on the 20th March 2010. We organised for Afghan traditional food to be to be had along with them each being presented a gift to demonstrate British Afghan appreciation for their hospitality while we were in Afghanistan, Helmand.
The Afghan Council UK also presented the Helmand television crew with a video that we edited which showcases the lives of Afghans living in the United Kingdom; this will be shown back in Afghanistan. Furthermore, a journalist from the international independent newspaper also attended and interviewed many of the delegations.
During this time we all discussed the situation of Afghanistan and came to a few understandings:
1) Afghan professionals from around the UK should go voluntaraly to Afghanistan so they can work together to help rebuild the country.
2) Afghanistan has immense media coverage but it is all bad, both within national and international media; we only hear and see the negative images/stories and do not hear about the joyful things.
3) International communities in particular the United Kingdom and America should work within three main categories in Afghanistan, media, education and agriculture.
The afternoon was a great winner and everyone enjoyed themselves.
