Shakespeare Globe Theatre 2009

Workshop: Afghan Youth Workshop

Overall aims:
• To develop progressive and sustainable improvements within the Afghan Youth, i.e. interacting with one another
• Gain historical knowledge on Shakespeare and his Globe Theatre
• Develop a multi-cultural atmosphere between Afghans and other cultures.

The event included a 30-40 minute guided tour of the Globe theatre. The tour guide Anthony informed us of the history behind theatre and Shakespeare. He then allowed the group to sit in whilst rehearsals were taking place for an upcoming piece of theatre at the Globe.

Following the tour we then explored the Museum on its knowledge and culture from Shakespeare’s life to modern day theatre, costume, props and agriculture. This helped the group enhance their knowledge concerning many different aspects of Shakespeare’s life.

After exploring the museum, Afghan Council UK invited the group to brunch at "Swan at the Globe", where discussions were taking place after the meal and evaluation forms were given out to each individual, in order to gain knowledge on how the content of the event could be improved and any suggestions that might help us for future events.

FEEDBACK

It was a great experience; I enjoyed the tour very much. The tour guide showed the group around and was very informative. I got a better understanding on the life of Shakespeare and London itself.
